Another Royal Caribbean ship to get massive makeover

It's makeover time for another Royal Caribbean ship.
The world's largest cruise line by passenger capacity has announced plans for a $61 million overhaul of the 3,114-passenger Adventure of the Seas -- the most it's ever spent to upgrade a vessel.
The 15-year-old ship will receive a number of new deck-top amusements that already can be found on newer Royal Caribbean vessels including dual racer water slides dubbed Cyclone and Typhoon; a FlowRider surf simulator; and Splashaway Bay, a children’s aqua park.

Scheduled to start in October, the makeover also will bring two new eateries that already appear on other Royal Caribbean ships: Izumi Japanese Cuisine and Chops Grille, the line's signature steakhouse. Boleros Latin Lounge, a Latin-themed nightspot that appears on several other Royal Caribbean ships, is being added, too.
A big part of the overhaul will be the addition of 100 more cabins, boosting the ship's passenger capacity. The line also plans to add a new lounge for passengers staying in suites.
Adventure will become the fifth Royal Caribbean ship in recent years to undergo such a massive upgrade. Others include Freedom of the Seas, which was revamped in 2015 (scroll through the carousel atop this story for a peek at the changes on that vessel).
Royal Caribbean operates 25 ships.
Unveiled in 2001, Adventure was one of the largest cruise ships in the world at the time of its debut but has been surpassed in size over the past decade by nearly two dozen newer vessels. It sails out of San Juan, Puerto Rico to theSouthern Caribbean.
USA TODAY last month received exclusive access to Royal Caribbean's newest ship,Harmony of the Seas, in advance of its first sailing with paying passengers. For our exclusive first photos of Harmony's public areas, suites and cabins, interior, scroll through the carousels below.
